FURIOUS FLYER AND VENGEANCE WORK FOR THE UNICORN HORN JUVENILE DIRT*
Both had spectacular bloodlines, both were spectacularly competitive. They had faced off in their maiden race, and it had been so close each place had been separated by a whisker. Sun King had won, Vengeance had taken second and Furious Flyer had been furious with third place. Their next race, the Unicorn Horn Juvenile Dirt, would be where they truly took out their frustrations, because for this workout they would be nose to nose the entire way. With some horizontal distance between them of course - the two hated each other's guts and would try and kick the crap out of one another the entire way.
Vengeance was sired by Admiral's Revenge and out of Lusitania. With so many incredible relations on both sides of her bloodline, the filly was expected to be no less than amazing. Admiral's Revenge was a Triple Crown Champion on MHS after all, and Lusitania had two Hall of Fame parents as well as a Hall of Fame inducted twin. With Marissa aboard, Ven had already achieved some pretty great workout times that would only improve as she matured and got fitter. Her personality was pretty similar to Marissa's too, and that was perfect since Marissa worked best with horses that were just as crazy or aggressive as she was. She got the best of the filly, which was plain to be seen right from the very beginning.
Furious Flyer was born of pretty incredible bloodlines as well. He was sired by Furious Passion, who was out of Hall of Fame mare Rising Fury and sired by G1 Impassioned Wind. Furious Passion was a Triple Crown Champion, one of only two in existence on Green Horse Fields. He had also won the Breeder's Cup Juvenile, Breeder's Cup Marathon and the Dubai World Cup. Hall of Fame mare Born To Soar was out of G1 mare Born To Fly and sired by G1 Hall of Fame stallion The Natural. She was the first of two Triple Tiara champions on GHF and was crowned Horse of the Year as a three year old. She won the Breeder's Cup Juvenile Fillies, the Breeder's Cup Ladies Classic and the Universal Cup, just to name a few of her twenty nine wins. Furious Flyer was clearly taking after his amazing family and had already put in some workout times to rival the current champions of the track. With Sarah as his rider, the colt would be a champion in no time.
The pair switched to canter after a long trot around the full length of the dirt track. Born front runner Furious tugged hard on the reins, practically begging to show his filly workout partner just how fast he could go. Having pulled at least an inch from Sarah's hands, the colt ducked his head and up went his heels in a double barrel kick to the air. Sarah quickly leaned back to keep her balance, nearly lying on the colt's back as it went nearly vertical. Vengeance reacted to Furious' antics by taking a few flying leaps. Marissa and Sarah quickly got the horses back under control by stopping them completely. Both growled loudly at the young thoroughbreds, still maintaining their distance from one another. Heels nudging their sides, the thoroughbreds went from halt to canter again, this time without drama. The time to gallop wasn't far away now, they knew.
They were entered in the Unicorn Horn Juvenile, a huge race for two year olds only over ten furlongs on the dirt. There had originally been eight entrants, but following two scratchings there were only four horses for the Star Thoroughbreds duo to beat.. not including each other. The first of them was Impressionable. The Bank On Greatness sired filly would be a force to be reckoned with, Sarah and Marissa both had no doubt of that. She'd raced once so far, for second place behind Ultimate Revenge, who was to start from the gate next to her. Ultimate Revenge had however already run twice this month and a third start in four weeks could be detrimental to the Admiral's Revenge colt. Saintly Touch was the next entrant, and The Devil's Touch x Night Stalker colt had been rested since winning his first race back at the beginning of the month. Lastly their competition consisted of Flaming Confidenza, the Confianza sired, Dashing In The Firelight foaled filly.
From doing their homework, Sarah and Marissa knew that Furious Flyer would most likely be able to lead with no dramas, until Vengeance and the rest of the field started to challenge. After that, it was anyone's race. The two thoroughbreds finally got their wish and launched into gallop after a slow canter on the final turn. With two furlongs of stretch straight out before them, dirt was flung up behind them as they dug deep to challenge one another. With the speed pouring on, they were still nose to nose. The filly proved her second place in their debut was no a fluke - girls were just as fast and strong as boys. As the finish was quickly approached, both thoroughbreds put on their final bursts of speed and crossed the line together. They pulled up reluctantly, desiring nothing more than to beat one another. But that would have to wait until the Unicorn Horn Juvenile Dirt, which they were now more than ready for.
