TRUE FIRE AND GOLD FOX WORKOUT FOR THE OCTOBER MAIDEN DIRT
Both colts were being exceptionally difficult this morning. Yes, they had been bitten by the racing bug and a month off made sure they were really hot and ready to go. But with their behaviour today, somehow they had to know that they were racing this weekend. I was feeling butterflies fluttering in my stomach, and judging by the look on Stella's face, she had the same. A wrong move could see either of us kicked off our mounts, and someone else ride. The bosses stood at the rail, watching our every move. They were great, we were all friends, but man I didn't want to do anything wrong.
As we'd been instructed, we pressed the colts on into canter at the mile pole. From there, we'd canter four furlongs, then race from the four furlong pole to the finish. I was quite happy with True Fire's chances in the real race, his last race had seen him place a close second. Gold Fox on the other hand had placed a very unfortunate ninth. As we cantered on, both colts competitively kept neck and neck. Neither of them were front runners, so they weren't fighting to keep the lead or whatever.
