SILVERIANNA AND SERAPHIM WORK FOR THE JUST A TROT FUTURITY
3,2,1 bang. A handful of silvery mane grasped in her fist, Stella kept her balance as Seraphim rocketed out of the gate. The young filly powered away from the starting gate, with Silverianna and Sarah following more slowly. Naturally a front runner, and a die hard one at that, Sera didn't like anyone being in front of her. Or anywhere near her, really. Sarah and Silverianna weren't worried though, allowing Seraphim to have a length over them. They'd catch her in the stretch; Silverianna could really fly when the time came.
They were putting in their final gallop workout before the Just A Trot Futurity. It was a two year olds race, over seven furlongs on dirt. They were up against five other thoroughbreds, including four colts and a filly. So it was a decent sized field of seven. They'd done their homework, and found out the favourite positions of each entrant. Gate one entrant Dark Charmer was a closer, so would most likely be bringing up the rear of the pack. His most recent start was a third place, and he hadn't won since breaking his maiden in May.
Gate two would hold Biohazard, another colt. He was a front runner, and a sprinter, like Seraphim. Unfortunately, we just had to hope that he would back off and let Sera lead, otherwise they would probably be the last two to cross the finish line after an epic speed duel. Biohazard, with a record of 7-1-2-2, was quite consistent, and therefore a strong contender. Afterglow in gate three was the only other filly besides Sera and Ianna in the field, and with three second places and a win to her name, the filly was one to watch. She raced usually in mid pack.
Charismatic Outlet would break from gate four. With only three top three placings in seven starts, he was the least consistent horse in the field. He was also a mid pack runner. Silverianna was gate five, and she liked to run just behind the leaders. She had never placed out of the top three, with 6 starts, and had beaten out Afterglow in her very first race, which she won. Seraphim was right next to Ianna, in gate six. She was easily the most experienced, with twelve starts, and a grade ahead of the rest. She'd also beaten older G2 stallion Here's The King in the Shining Stakes. Devil's Crusade was the final entrant, in gate seven. He'd won his most recent race, and was likely to really contend in this race.
