If Furious Passion had a middle name, it would be 'Unpredictable'. But despite his furious bloodlines, Passion didn't quite turn into a killer. While he is very fiery, and hot to handle, Passion also has a sweet, tender and affectionate side. He has never been as stubborn, nor will he ever be, as his sister or dam when it comes to accepting love or following direction. On the track he tends to be on the difficult side, enjoying making his rider really work to keep his attention and do as she directs. But in the barn, he is as sweet as a puppy. When he's not racing to win, or gobbling up his feed, Passion loves to go for runs on the beach, and chasing rabbits in the bush. He likes running - it symbolises freedom and beauty and power, though most of all, he loves to win. The sensation of racing past other horses and flying at top speed past the finish really energises him, fueling his deep desire to finish first. At first, we had the colt running in the lead, like his dam and Vindictive Fury. But when we realised he got bored and lost interest in the win after being in the lead for so long in the stretch, we decided to have him run at the back of the pack, so he would work all the way down the stretch until his nose finds its way past the finish first. We tested this theory in a mock race with the other two year olds on our home track, proving it to be Passion's best position to get the win.

Furious Passion is born of champion bloodlines. His dam Rising Fury was Racehorse of the Year and inducted into the Hall Of Fame, having won many huge races including the Breeder's Cup Classic. By her retirement she had a record of 87-41-24-13. Passion's sire Impassioned Wind absolutely rocked the foreign race tracks, ending his career with a record of 90-52-12-23, having won many huge stakes races overseas and three memorial stakes races on our own track. Impassioned Wind was almost as well known as Rising Fury for his wild temper and tendancy to attack other horses during a race, but by some miracle, Furious Passion did not turn out 'furious' like his parents, instead adopting an almost sweet personality in comparison.

Racing Style:

Unlike his dam or his older sister, Passion has a conservative racing strategy. He breaks at just an average pace, and allows the field to get about five lengths on him. This is because of his vast size - he takes a little while to get going, although he is just as wild as his family. So we only run him in races of nine furlongs or more, despite his great speed. He remains at the back of the pack until the final few hundred metres of the race, when he digs in and glides to the lead.
