BORN TO IMPRESS, STALKER'S GLORY AND DYSPHORIA
It was a few days after their first ever races. Born To Impress and Dysphoria, ridden by Marissa and Stella, had raced in the Legacy Dirt Stakes placing first and fourth, respectively. Stalker's Glory, ridden by Blaze, had come third. Needless to say, Born To Impress's win was great, and Dysphoria and Stalker's Glory hadn't done badly in their first starts.
Today, they were just taking the horses for trail rides to the beach and back. Let them have some fun, while working out. They trotted and cantered through the paddocks, side by side, and once they reached the trail, Impress and Marissa took the lead, followed by Blaze and Gloria, with the rear brought up by Stella and Dysphoria. They slowed to walk at the first section of the trail, where there is low hanging branches and tree roots sticking out of the ground. Marissa took the opportunity to rub Impress's neck appreciatively.
So happy with him She grinned back at the others, who responded in kind. Of course, she had every right to be. He'd beaten other talented, well bred colts and fillies for the win. Including Dysphoria. Stella wasn't happy with Dysphoria's outcome, but it had been close. Next time would be easier, now that the filly had her first race experience.
They broke back into trot, and didn't speak again for a while. Blaze was please with Stalker's Glory's result. Third of six horses wasn't bad at all, although he'd hoped for more. They'd get the next one. As the trail widened, the horses moved on into canter. They rose to the top of the hill, and suddenly the ocean could be heard. Just about 200 metres more and they'd be there.
The horses grew more excited, eagerly anticipating a race along the beach. Not today guys, just trotting and cantering and maybe a bit of swimming. Marissa told the trio of thoroughbreds, smiling. Blaze nodded. We've got the Unicorn Horn Series to look forward to. Well, Gloria and Impress did anyway. Dysphoria would be sitting this one out. This annoyed Stella slightly, especially because Naturally A Flyer was also sitting out. It was just the lack of jockeys right now.
Finally, the trail ended and the horses spread out onto the beach, each declaring their happiness in different ways. Impress leaped, Dysphoria whinnied, and Stalker's Glory attempted to gallop straight down to the water. Then with their riders' encouragement, they moved to the harder sand and cantered up the beach, side by side. It was only ten minutes of workout and play on the beach before they turned for home. There were other horses to workout, and the riders couldn't tire these three out too much since they were racing two weekends in a row.
