WHIPPED CREAM AND THE RISING WORK FOR MAY MAIDEN TURF/DIRT
The pair were nearly three and a half years old, and still had not broken their maidens. The Rising had been back and forth between homes, but Star Thoroughbreds wouldn't allow that to happen with him again. They'd worked with him for a few weeks while he was on lease to them, and then after he was back with Triple Krown Racing for a few weeks and not raced, they'd decided to make an offer and bought him back. He was, after all, by The Natural and a half brother to Beyond The Limits through his dam. Born To Soar and Wildly Natural were his half sisters. Ri could do better than he had so far, and Stella was determined to ride him to the top.
Olivia had similar desires for Whipped Cream. The filly had two grade one parents, but most of her siblings on both sides had not done terribly well on the track and she wanted to change that. Grade three was her goal for Cream, and right now that goal may as well be on the other side of the universe. But Olivia would try her best with the filly, and even if they just made it to five wins, she'd be happy. But for now, they were aiming just to get the pair finishing in the top three a few times each.
The Rising was entered in the May Maiden Dirt. There were four entries so far, so he had a good chance of making the top three. But it wasn't going to be an easy race. All of the horses in the field were pretty much in the same boat as Ri. The difference was that he was older and had the maturity both physically and mentally that the two year olds didn't. He also had the slight advantage of experience. Sea Siren of Bowen Acres had run three times. Van Guard of Witch Creek Stables had run twice, and C'est Impossible of Prison Hill Stables had run six times. Ri himself had run ten races.
In terms of how the race would play out, there was no front runner so Stella would have to hold Ri back to ensure Van Guard, who was also a preceder/stalker, would lead the race. Then Ri could comfortably take position, followed by C'est Impossible, and then Sea Siren.
Whipped Cream was entered in the May Maiden Turf. It was a field of five,
