LOUD AND CLEAR WORKS FOR THE STAR PARTY
ROYAL ASSASSIN AND SWEETNESS UNLIMITED WORK FOR THE JULY DIRT STAKES
It had been a long, long time since Royal Assassin had been in such great shape, and it showed. The four year old had shown excellent promise as a two year old, and then was pitted against older horses too soon, ruining his confidence. The colt had won his first race in nearly two years three weeks ago, after being neglected for nearly a year at his previous home. It had taken months of careful feeding and exercising at Star Thoroughbreds before Assassin was ready to return to the track, and he had run in seven starts before finally managing to get the win. His rider, Blaze, was thrilled.
Sweetness Unlimited, on the other hand, was a late bloomer. She'd been with Star Thoroughbreds since midway into her two year old season, and she was just now showing what she was made of. The four year old filly had won four of seven starts this season and was now on the verge of breaking into the higher grades. She would be pointed to the sprints for four year old and over horses later in the year. Loud and Clear was the youngest of the trio, and had been showing plenty of talent this year. With the sprinter series closing in, the Star Party would be the decider as to which race the filly ran in, if she was entered at all. It all depended on the outcome.
Having lost her last three races, Belle was going into the race more determined than ever to win. The field was mostly made up of colts, with one other filly, who happened to be Belle's half sister. Tears Of An Angel was also sired by Cryin' Out Loud, and had hit grade one back in May. She had most recently taken the Girl's Party in June Week Three and looked strong for the Star Party win. The other major contender on Marissa's radar was Mastermind. The colt had been in a slump earlier in the year but had won two races in June, including the Boy's Party, and had last week taken the Seaspray Cup Grade Two Sprint, catapulting him into grade one.
In comparison to the two stand out horses, Loud And Clear was grade three with nine wins. She'd performed consistently this year and certainly had the ability to take on the Star Party field, which also consisted of grade three colt Aquatic Addiction and grade four Jazzaway. Aquatic Addiction was a good horse, with four wins behind him this year. Jazzaway had potential, but had not yet managed a win this year and didn't seem to be on form to win this race, either. Still, there was no sense in forgetting he was there during the race. They couldn't, really, seeing as he would be right in front of them leading it. Mastermind and Tears Of An Angel would be right there with them, too - Aquatic Addiction would bring up the rear as the only closer.
