Fantasy Island
"Fanta"
#1460 Y13 3yo 16hh Filly
Straying rather far from the ideally-tempered horses that her parents are, Fanta can be a vindictive little witch. She dislikes females of any species, apt to pin her ears just before she bites or kicks at horse or human alike. She's the type to do basically whatever she can get away with - she loves new handlers, and will act like an absolute boar to them if they don't know she's capable of standing still. She's a lot better with men than women, though we're not sure why. She's not perfect for them, but she's more likely to behave without the use of force. In her stall, Fanta can be a bit territorial, so she's often brought into the aisle if any work needs to be done. It's safer for everyone that way, and she tend to behave a little more. When she's being ridden, it's just as stated above - if she has someone experienced up that knows she's capable of doing well, she performs like a charm. If it's someone inexperienced who thinks that her act at being uncivilized is the truth, then there might be trouble. In the post parade, the pony rider has to be a gelding without exception if they don't want to be bitten, and they have to be careful that she's distanced out of kicking range from other horses at all times. Needless to say, she's the boss filly out in the paddock, and is very vocal about her demands. You can always tell Fanta's around other horses from the dramatic squeals and screams that can be heard from around the farm.

Race Record: 10-4-4-0 (Grade Four)
Preferences: Turf, 8-11 Furlongs / Closer
She loads easily, especially if she's the first to go in. The gate attendants can keep her pretty occupied while the others load, playing with her nose and allowing her to lip at their fingers. Once her jockey gets into position, she knows it's game time. Despite her orneriness, this filly loves to run when it comes down to it. Her heart beats faster, and her feet start to dance, eager for the gate to spring open. When it finally does, Fanta comes out like a rocket, and is generally in the lead for half a moment. However, she slows up enough to let every horse by her, as if eying her competition from the very start. She is normally right on the heels of the last horse, biding her time despite the dirt kicked back on her. When her jockey asks it, at about three furlongs out, Fanta starts to kick in. She picks the horses off, one by one, coming up the outside. She digs in down the stretch, driving relentlessly toward the leader. Even when she passes them, she doesn't slow down. Winning by a nose really isn't her style - she'd rather take it by five.
