SILENT FURY WORKS FOR THE MELBOURNE CUP
The Melbourne Cup was definitely one of the biggest races on the turf calendar. Dubbed 'the race that stops the nation', it was the race all the spectators turned up for, to show off their fashions and place a few wild bets. The owners and trainers all worked towards this race, and you were lucky to have a horse even run in it, let alone win. Marissa had won on Rising Fury ten years ago now. She cringed at the thought of it being so long ago. It made her feel old, even though she was only just thirty. But Rising Fury's legacy was in Silence now and the stallion had a real chance of winning it.
Silence extended his trot, moving impressively with his tail in the air and his neck arched. His ears were alert and his eyes were bright. His dark brown coat shone with health. Muscular legs carried him with ease, and Marissa felt beyond proud to be the rider who brought him to this point. He'd been a troublesome colt, but had matured into a great stallion. He was at the top of his game, and would be retired at the end of this year. The competition was only getting stiffer as the races got bigger, but Silence could handle it. He was in with a chance at Racehorse Of The Year, and possibly even the Hall Of Fame, if he could win his last few key races.
On into canter, and Marissa went over what she knew about their competition for the prestigious Melbourne Cup.
