LIKE A LIONESS AND SWEET LIKE SUGAR WORK FOR THE AKITA ROSE STAKES*
Sarah walked out her front door with a bright smile on her face, and an apple in hand. The apple was for her, the apple core was for Like A Lioness, her first ride of the day. She made her way down to the stables, eating as she went, and she could see across the yard to where Blaze was exiting the staff house. It was four in the morning, and the sun was just beginning to light the horizon. The stablehands had already been at work for half an hour or so, getting horses ready for their workouts. Natalie approached Sarah with both Like A Lioness and Sweet Like Sugar in hand. Morning, Natalie. Sarah greeted the stablehand with a happy smile. Hi Sarah. I was wondering, can I talk to you when you get a minute? Natalie asked, smiling back slightly nervously. I've got a minute now. What can I do for you? Sarah asked, taking Lila from Natalie. Well.. I know you've been looking for new riders, and my fiance, Chris, is looking for a new job. He was working for a trainer over at The Wire's track but the trainer's gone broke and had to let him go. I was just wondering, hoping you might consider taking him on?
Sarah listened intently, watching Natalie as she spoke. She was pleading. Sarah knew Natalie had been engaged for a while and knew they were probably planning their wedding. Natalie lived here but her fiance did not, and Sarah knew it was probably all Natalie wanted. Can he come in for an interview and maybe a test ride this morning? Sarah questioned. She had seen Natalie's fiance ride races before and he was good. Maybe he would be a good addition to their lack of riders here. Maybe, just maybe, good enough that Sarah could retire from racing and have another baby after Fly By Darkness finished racing. Yes, definitely. Thank you so much! I'll go call him now. Thank you! Natalie thanked her excitedly as Blaze appeared to take Candy. Natalie beamed at him and hurried off to use the office phone. Sarah smiled to herself. Hopefully Chris was a good enough rider to work for her.
