King Of Skies
"Kingy"
#1692 Y14 2yo 16.1hh Colt
Blessed with intelligence and a big heart, Kingy knows his job and he knows it well. He's a fiercely competitive colt, a trait passed down from two Hall of Fame grandsires and G1 parents. Kingy loves peppermints, so any whiff of that minty goodness and he's all over you until you hand it over. He hates barking dogs and will kick at them and chase them if they come close. In the paddock he's the horse who just doesn't get involved in the herd hierarchy. He doesn't let anyone push him around, nor does he do the pushing around. Generally he's an easy going horse, good to handle except for when he's pumped for the race. On the track he's very focused and practically ignores the other horses until they come knocking for the lead.
Here's The King x Seraphim
On both sides, Kingy's grandsires are HOF inducted. Royal Red Richard, Here's The King's sire, was not so much a sprinter himself but is the sire of HOF inducted sprinter Pegasus Wings. Here's The King himself won the Star Festival and Breeder's Cup Sprint, to name a few. Seraphim is Kingy's dam, sired by HOF sprinter and winner of Breeder's Cup Sprint Flying Colours. Seraphim's dam Requiem is the dam of HOF sprinter mare Deadly Desires. Seraphim herself won the Breeder's Cup Juvenile Sprint as well as the Breeder's Cup Sprint.
Race Record: 1-1-0-0 (Grade Five)
Preferences: Dual, 5-8 Furlongs / Front runner
It was obvious from the get-go that Kingy would be a front runner. Obviously the trait was strongly inherited from his dam's side, because Kingy simply cannot stand to run anywhere but in the lead. Kingy shoots out of the gate and takes up his rail position at the front of the pack. He'll allow other horses to come as close as a neck behind him during the race but any closer to the lead and he'll pick up the pace. He leaves his break for the win to the last moment, once all the other contenders are already flat out and burning up his lead, then he puts on the final burst and truly sprints the remaining distance.
